Topic: Liberty and Justice For All?
Life in the 21st century continues to be riddled with inequities, including gender and race, populations uprooted and displaced, and poverty. People with disadvantages struggle to stay afloat in such environments. Society has attempted to address these inequities, the Civil Rights movement brought us equal opportunity initiatives and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes Article 23 for employee rights, the right to equal pay and to form unions. Do we live up to the noble principles of liberty, justice and equity? What does it take to achieve it? This year is the 200th anniversary of the Birth of The Báb (meaning: The Gate to God) one of the Founders of the Bahá’í Faith. His powerful message challenges the foundations of society and calls us to greater social justice: promoting equality for women, dismantling fanaticism and prejudice, and freedom from oppression. Please join us to explore these themes and more at Human Rights Day 2019, co-sponsored with the United Nations Organization, Phoenix Chapter.
